Faith, Family, Food, Fun, and Farting

Those five are usually a package deal with the Hubers' clan.

This weekend, Amber, Nathan, and Corianna came to pick John and I up in Grand Rapids late Friday night. We continued our adventure by crossing the border into the Great White North (if you can consider Ontario a part of that) to visit Alicia at her college.

I could probably have written multiple posts about the great fun we had, but didn't. So here are a few highlights:

Food! Greg (Alicia's boyfriend) is an excellent cook. We enjoyed eggs and bacon, spaghetti, appetizers, and more made by the serving hands of Alicia and Greg. We also had some great Ethiopian, coffee, milkshakes, and sweet potato fries provided by the local restaurants.

Rock climbing. Amber watched the Kiddos at her friend Lynn's house while Alicia and Greg took us to a creepy abandoned parking lot and into a very large warehouse with no signs labelling what type of business it was. Turns out, it's their rock climbing gym. We had a blast climbing, bouldering, and racing up the walls. Nathan and I felt pretty weak after Alicia and Greg rocked our socks off (pun intended).

Chuch. Lish and Greg go to the same church as Matt and Lynn, so we all walked there from Lynn's house. Their church has a great community and was very welcoming. They have a really great pastor and the sermon was on prayer. It was a great reminder about how and why we pray. Isn't it amazing that the creator and sustainer of the universe would care to listen to minuscule creatures like us and allow us to call him "Father"?

Hiking. Hamilton is right on the Niagara Escarpment, meaning there are beautiful waterfalls all around the area. We went on about a 4km hike from some waterfalls to Dundas Point overlooking the whole valley area. It's crazy how 2 babies can make a hike much more of a workout! We had a blast tromping through the mud, throwing snowballs, climbing to the top of the waterfall, and enjoying God's beautiful creation.

Farting. Yup, it gets it's own section. Primarily because at one point Greg asked this question: "Is this something that your family always struggles with? Because last time we went to visit them they were all saying that they had the same thing." Greg, I'll have you know, that the last time you visited, there was a sickness going around that cause projectile vomiting and diarrhea. That was NOT normal. This, however, was much more typical. The Hubers' bowels are just very natural. I will have you know that this makes certain moments of a road trip rather unpleasant.

Babies. John and Corianna love each other. At least, I think that's what it means when he wraps his arms around her head and squeezes as tight as he can... It was so fun to see them playing together, stealing toys, sharing spaghetti, and blabbering about whatever they saw. We went to the harbor and saw some ducks swimming, right away, John pointed to them and said "duck." Now, my son is smart, but he has never seen a duck before, so I thought it was a fluke, but nope, three or four more times he pointed and said "duck." We were amazed. A few minutes later we were walking next to the water and someone was taking their dog on a walk. John pointed at the dog and said "duck." So...maybe he's not a genius, but it was pretty impressive. He knows the word "dog," so I'm pretty sure that he just assumed the ducks were the same as dogs and we heard what we wanted to hear. But it was still fun. He also thought it was hilarious when Amber and Nathan chased each other around trying to push one another off the pier or when Greg and Nathan climbed the ropes up to the ship pretending to be pirates.

Needless to say, we had a pretty great trip. And what better way to end it than laughing our way through a Tim Horton's drive-thru at two in the morning? Can you say slap-happy? The lady on the other end of the speaker wasn't amused. Sorry!
